Vote Terese Tomanek for
Duluth City Council At-Large!

“I'm fully committed to ensuring that all residents, regardless of zip code and socio-economic background, have opportunities to succeed, thrive, and build their futures.” —Terese Tomanek

MEET TERESE

Terese is a retired chiropractor, business owner, and ordained Protestant minister. She served as a chaplain at Essentia-St. Mary’s Medical Center, Woodland Hills and as a campus minister at UMD. She is married to her husband of 44 years, Steve Davis, and has two married children. Terese has called Duluth home for over 40 years.

Terese and family sharing a family vacation—husband Steve, son Marc and his wife Toola, daughter Hallie and her husband Will.

"I have run the shores of Lake Superior in Grandma’s Marathon and skated near those same shores in the Inline Marathon. My husband and I have raised our kids here and they’ve been educated well.  We have tent camped at Indianpoint where you could hear the lions from the zoo roar in the night. We have volunteered at the Rhubarb Fest cooking thousands of brats and raising money for CHUM. We’ve have checked out thousands of books and audiotapes from the Duluth library and attended countless performances of the Nutcracker Ballet (my daughter started dancing in the performances when she was eight, so of course I’ve bought dozens of tickets for our family and friends.) As a family, we’ve skied at Spirit Mountain and in the beautifully maintained cross country ski trails. My walking partner Ann and I have logged over 6,000 miles walking together on the gorgeous Lakewalk most every weekday morning."

PLATFORM

Terese looks at all issues through the lens of equity.

She has championed opportunities for community development and housing as her areas of focus, and believes that all residents should have the opportunity to grow and thrive in a city that supports them.

Vibrant Neighborhoods

"When I talk of vibrant neighborhoods, I think of driveable streets—last year, thanks to our public works department, the city completed repairing potholes at an unprecedented rate. Our parks department makes every dollar stretch to the max to preserve our green spaces and offer fun programming for every age. Our libraries provide and enrich our neighborhoods with welcoming spaces for all and resources that we can all use. And wonderful schools—we have members of our school board here who together with teachers and parents, work diligently to provide state of the art education, teacher support and a nurturing place for all children."

City Budget

"The main job of the city council is to advise the administration on spending priorities and approve the budget which provides the services we all rely on. We all know costs are going up in every area of life, and those increases are worrisome for families with children, people living alone on a fixed income and for seniors. Basically, all of us. For this reason, I organized a council retreat where we started the work of looking at the budget, earlier than we have ever done since I’ve been on council."

Community Safety

"I have supported our public service providers of police, fire and life safety in every way I can. From participating annually in “Walk to School Day” so our kids have safe routes to school and they learn safety tips while crossing streets, to serving on the Public Utilities Commission where Cindy Falconer and her coworkers have lobbied for state money to replace lead lines at the fastest rate possible. And I have teamed with Councilors Randorf, Nephew and Forsman to provide funding for the Community Crisis Response Program for 2025. This important program’s purpose is to divert non-violent emergency calls from the police department to mental health professionals and help offer resources to those who need them."
